Hello and How Do You Do?

Hello fellow ONEin3ers! My name is Dawn Quinlan and I just joined the 2010 - 11 ONEin3 Boston Mayor’s Advisory Council. Even before we had our first Council meeting, Devin asked us to get involved as blog contributors. He basically begged and pleaded…so how could I say No? (Just kidding, he didn’t, but he did ask nicely). And since I am so excited to be part of the ONEin3 community AND I’ve always wanted to blog, here I am!

A little about me: I’m originally from the Bronx, NY (No, I am not a Yankees fan), but I’ve been a Boston resident for over 10 years. I’ve always loved to explore the city (by MBTA or foot since I don’t have a car) and go to local events, but for the past three years, I’ve been completely pre-occupied with work and a part time grad program. However, I just finished school, which means I have free time again! Therefore, my goal as a new ONEin3 blogger extraordinaire is to do at least one fun thing a month and write about it. Boston is a great city and there are so many awesome things to see and do, both in the city and beyond.

I will definitely write at least one entry per month, but I’m aiming for more. This weekend I’m going to Maine for the first time ever (as a side note, I think I need to explain that this is exciting because I rarely leave Boston and I am basically afraid of the suburbs and any place that is not a major city), so stay tuned!

To my fellow just-christened Council member,

Looking forward to sharing our Boston adventures with each other, the Council, and all other Boston ONEin3ers! A trip to Maine this weekend sounds fabulous- I love all things Maine- make sure to do an Old Port stroll in my (2nd) favorite city, Portland ! Have a fall brew from Gritty McDuff’s, take a ferry ride to Peak’s Island, and try some of the great restaurants ( try “Nosh”) in this “foodie” little city that has so much historical and cultural character and awesome places to eat, shop, stroll, and play! . Enjoy the foliage on your way back- it will surely turn a bit more over the weekend!

If we’re making recommendations for Portland, I’ll put in a good word for Duck Fat — a restaurant whose name says it all. (Gritty McDuff’s is fabulous, too). Good luck out in the wild.

Thank you, thank you! You are all too kind! I am, in fact, going to explore the greatness that is Portland. A friend from college just moved there. I will definitely pass along your suggestions to her.

Have a great weekend everyone! Until next time…

I’m looking forward to hear what you find in Portland. If your “one fun thing a month” exploration brings you to Dorchester, I’ll treat you to lunch.
