Kind of a somber post to start up Tuesday, but so be it.
This year we’ve had some particularly tragic violence in Boston.
You may have heard about a triple shooting that happened at beloved restaurant Same Old Place on Jamaica Plain’s Centre Street. Beyond the tragedy of 3 deaths, it is unacceptable to have this sort of violence anywhere in Boston.
It just so happens that Jamaica Plain is home to one of Boston’s great organizations, Neighbors for Neighbors, and they are organizing a lunch-in Wednesday, November 24th at noon.
Neighborhood institutions like Same Old Place are what makes city living great. Boston is filled with unique neighborhoods whose centers of gravity lie in local restaurants, shops, libraries, churches and parks. When we lose these places to violence, we lose our city.
If you’re in town and free (especially if you live or work in JP), we hope you’ll head out there to show your love for Same Old Place and your support for the neighborhood.
Joseph Porcelli, who is Chief Executive Neighbor for Neighbors for Neighbors and an exemplary organizer and community fixture has this message:
“Inspired by our neighbor Susan’s post, let’s meet for lunch on Wednesday, 11/24 at noon at Same Old Place and stage a lunch-in to let Same Old Place know we’ve got their back and that our neighborhood is defined by our spirit, commitment, and passion for the community we love and live in. Go Neighbors, and pizza, and subs, and salad!
Come hungry, leave soul satisfied!”
There you have it. A little pre-Thanksgiving nourishment for your body and soul!
