‘Tis the Season
It’s that time of year again… likely still full from Thanksgiving leftovers, you’re in the last stretch of 2010. There’s one final month to pack in all of the New Years resolutions you originally hoped to follow starting January 2010 but never fulfilled, finish (or start) your holiday shopping, and attend a mix of holiday parties with co-workers, friends, and families.
Many young professionals may have just celebrated a 5 or 10 year high school reunion during the long Thanksgiving weekend. Back in high school, seasons and school years seemed to cap off differently than they do now: high school football season closed with the annual rival Thanksgiving football game, each school year was rewarded with a 10 week summer vacation, and your four years of hard work and memories ended with proms and graduations. Looking back, before entering the real world, these celebrations provided a time to revel with close friends, while going out of your way to avoid curfew or any other rules set by the parental units or principals.
Fast forward ten years or so – now that you’re in the working world, during this time of year there’s a reminder of how careful you should be when toasting to a great year. Amid all of the holiday soirees and parties, it’s important to take a step back and remember a few tips so you’re not “that girl” or “that guy” at the work holiday party with the boss.
