ONEin3ers,
I write to announce one awesome thing and tell you about a whole set of other awesome things.
First, awesome announcement: regular and regularly amazing blogger Meg Reilly has agreed to co-edit the website with me. I’m really psyched about this because she loves ONEin3, cares about Boston, knows her fellow young people and is super committed to the cause. We are in great hands with her as co-editor.
A big round of applause for Meg!
And now, the bundle of awesomeness.
Meg and I met for drinks last night to discuss the blog and, would you believe it, we had some great ideas. We only had two beers, so they’re probably really actual good ideas.
To start, we identified some parts of Boston’s young person community that we believe the blog does not reflect well or at all.
Here’s the list we came up with:
- College students writing specifically about college
- The life of a young parent in Boston
- Boston’s nightlife - we want to reflect the fun people have in Boston
- The LGBTQ community in all its complexity
- Boston’s music scene
- SPORTS! I have a bit of a blind spot about this because I’m a huge sports fan AND constantly on guard about Boston being too much into sports. However, it’s an important part of Boston’s identity and the lives of Boston’s young people, so it should be here
- Fashion and style in Boston
- Boston history - another item that I love, but often feel is overrepresented as part of Boston’s identity
How do we go about reflecting these more effectively on the blog? Well, we rely on you of course!
So, here’s the official announcement:
ONEin3 Boston seeks motivated writers who would like to cover any of the bulleted areas above on a monthly or bi-weekly basis. We expect good writing, reliable submissions and, above all, interesting and thoughtful commentary on what makes young Bostonians Bostonian.
If you are interested, please email me at [email protected].
Meg and I also came up with a special item that we would like to experiment with, which I will announce later this week.
For now, another big welcome to Meg and on to bigger things on the ONEin3 blog!
