Where Everybody Knows Your Name… and a Contest!

Some people are creatures of habit.  They eat the same lunch every day.  Watch the same TV shows every night.  See the same people every day.  Go out to the same bar every weekend.  (Confession:  I am one of those people.)

Living in Beacon Hill, I suppose it’s only natural that I’d want to go… where everybody knows my name.  And they’re always glad I came(Confession:  I have never been to Cheers.  But I’ve seen pretty much every episode.)

Where does everybody know your name?  What is your real-life Cheers?  Or, at the very least, what is your favorite watering hole in the city?

Tell us in the comments section of this post:

  • Your favorite watering hole in Boston
  • Neighborhood of aforementioned restaurant, bar, pub, or tavern
  • Why this is the best spot in the city

Why should you tell me?  Because there’s more on the line than just the reputation of your fave hang-out!  In fact, it’s pretty much the coolest prize in the history of prizes.

Based on our totally subjective grading system, Devin and I are going to pick the best response and announce the winner on the blog.  Then, on Friday, February 25th, we’ll trek out to the bar of choice, buy the winner two rounds, and try to convince you all that we’re cooler in person than we appear on this blog.  And ONEin3 readers, you’re all invited to partake in the fun! From pushing for your pub to coming along to toast the winner, we want to see your thoughts in the comments, sharing it on Twitter and Facebook, and helping us make the impossible choice of ONEin3′s One Bar for Winter.

Let me recap:

  • The winner gets free drinks, looking like you have the best choice in hang-out spots, and an evening with Devin and me.
  • The losers get to visit a potentially new bar, meet other ONEin3 readers, and STILL hang out with Devin and me.

Oh, I’m sorry.  There are no losers in this contest.

We’re accepting comments til noon on Friday, February 18.  We’ll name the winner by Monday, February 21.  So mark you calendar and tell us where to go!  Let the games begin — where does everybody know YOUR name?

Dress down for snow? What is acceptable to wear to work?

The Globe asks employers and employees if it is okay to dress down when you have to wade through the slush and storm to get to work.  Skirts and ties are being replaced with goulashes and scarves.

I can tell you that it’s no fun trudging through all this snow and getting all my clothes dirty. My dry cleaner is probably the only person in my life who’s happy to have the snow everywhere.

But then again, I feel more professional when I show up to work looking nice.

So, what do you think, should there be leniency?  What’s the best way to handle this rough situation?  Tell us in the comments!
