BRA Research Division Highlights ONEin3 Population

There’s always more to learn about Boston’s kick-butt young adult population! Check out Boston by the Numbers: Young Adults, the latest Research Division publication. The new report highlights the city’s young adult population (ages 20-34), which make up 35% of Boston’s population. The City’s ONEin3 program works to continue to grow this important demographic in Boston by making the city a sustainable place for young people to be.

  • Boston has the highest concentration of young adults among the 25 most populous U.S. cities.
  • Young adults also make up 48.2% of Boston’s resident labor force
  • Allston has the highest percentage of young adult residents, making up 65% of the neighborhood
  • Other neighborhoods with a large young adult population include: Fenway, Brighton, and the North End
  • 60% of the ONEin3 population rent their homes, compared to 30% who own their homes
  • Boston ranks 4th among the 25 major cities in the percent of 18-34 year olds with a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 52% of the college degrees held by Boston residents are held by someone between the ages of 20-34
