On June 20th the Young Friends of the Greenway will host a first ever party under the Greenway Art Janet Echelman sculpture called Glow in the Park. We spoke to the Greenway’s Chief of Staff and ONEin3 council alum, Michael Nichols, to get the dish on the Young Friends of the Greenway and this event.
The recently formed Young Friends began with over 40 young professionals from the Boston area comprising a variety of fields. Glow in the Park is the first event that The Young Friends are hosting that is ‘by young professionals, for young professionals.’
Mike says that his time on the ONEin3 council has helped inform everything in his career. It has given him added perspective and a further sense of civic duty. After joining The Greenway, it has continued to inform so many of the relationships he has been able to build and has given him added perspective on how we can all make Boston better. The Young Friends have gotten a lot of feedback that the ONEin3 population is looking for events where they can support the community and have a great Saturday night. Glow in the Park is exactly this.
More than anything else, Mike is looking for people to have a good time as well as celebrate our city, one of it’s best public spaces, and the best piece of public art the city has ever seen! Not only will there be live music from 80s cover band Gazpacho, there will be beer sponsored by Harpoon, wine sponsored by Wicked Wines, unlimited food truck food from Bon Me, Stoked Wood-Fired Pizza, and Moyzilla. The event will also have a ‘Glow Show’ LED Light Performance by Cirque de Light, a light painting photobooth by Light Painting Portraits, an official VIP After-Party at Trade Restaurant until 2am, and a one-year status as a ‘Young Friend of the Greenway’ with benefits including special young professional volunteer opportunities, early notification of events, and other yet-to-be-announced benefits! Tickets are on sale now. Make sure to register today!
Mike says, “so much of what makes Boston great is finding talented people in a variety of fields that you can help and that can help you.” Through Glow in the Park, young professionals will be able to support the Greenway Conservancy’s ability to fulfill its mission while putting people in a position to form lasting connections.
