“We moved up to Boston in 2012 intending to stay for a few years and then go overseas to work with refugees. Yet almost as soon as we arrived, we began to simply fall in love with the city. We started out renting in Jamaica Plain, and loved JP, but before long we started looking for a house to put down roots. Thanks to great mortgage programs for first-time homebuyers through the city and state, we ended up with a very affordable mortgage and a beautiful house in the Codman Square neighborhood of Dorchester.
We love our neighborhood, and are passionate about Dorchester. René teaches at Roxbury Prep charter school in Upham’s Corner and Andrew just graduated from law school and hopes to become a public defender. We both care deeply about racial justice and racial reconciliation; Andrew recently gave a Boston College Grad Talk entitled ‘Why I’m the Only White Guy on My Dorchester Street’ (google it!). We have put down roots in this vibrant community and are proud to be #BOSTONMAde.”
