Mike is #BOSTONMAde

“I have always had a strong connection to Boston. Having grown up outside the city, with parents who worked in Boston, it became a part of me, just as much a part of me as my own hometown. After graduating from UMASS Amherst, I packed up my bags, and came home to Boston. I bought a condo in Brighton, which I see as a microcosm of Boston itself. The neighborhood is always evolving and growing, which has been exciting to watch over these past few years. I am a construction manager in the city. Working in the construction field is exciting, as we adapt buildings and storefronts to fit Boston’s ever-changing environment. To me, there is nothing better than looking at a building that I worked on, in a city that I love. Knowing that I have contributed to my city in this way fills me with pride.  I live in Brighton and I am proud to be #BOSTONMAde.”

Ty-Juana is #BOSTONMAde

“I graduated from Framingham State University with a degree in Fashion Design, lived in NY for a few years doing the ‘fashion world thing’ but overtime I realized that my creativity could be used in another creative element. I decided to create VENT by Ty-Juana Flores, a company that creates graphics and websites for entrepreneurs in creative fields with a purpose because I want to work with Boston based artists, photographers, makers, designers and others who value quality craftsmanship.  Those that grew up in Boston know that it’s a place where there is a melting pot of talent and ambition. I love Boston, however I do wish that Bostonians were more open minded to the diverse talent that lives in Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan. My advice…broaden your network because your success and personal growth depends on it especially if your talent stems from creativity. I live in Roxbury and I am #BOSTONMAde.”

Brandon is #BOSTONMAde

“A few years ago, I was working on the South Shore and realized my passion lied in handcrafted woodwork.  I started Grain in a garage down on the South Shore so; I could design and build on my own.  Not shortly after, I moved back into Boston and realized I wanted the shop closer to home.  I found great shop space in East Boston and knew it was right for me.  I loved being close to the DayFIVE_Brandonwater and really felt that Eastie was a true neighborhood.

This past spring I teamed up with Piers Park Sailing Center and did a youth boatbuilding class for ESL students at East Boston High School. Together, we refinished a rowboat and took it for a sail in the harbor.  It was a great learning experience for the kids and me.  We plan to continue the class this fall.”

Rosie is #BOSTONMAde

“My interests in science started as a child going into the lab with my mother who researches neurodegenerative diseases. As a high school teen I was hit with the tragic death of my first love who died suddenly in a car crash. He suffered from a severe traumatic brain injury which was not treatable, even at the world renowned hospitals lining Longwood Ave. I always had an interest in the brain but it was this stark realization of how little is truly known about the brain that I decided I would work tirelessly towards a future in making an impact on the understanding and treatment of the brain and traumatic brain injury. In college I studied neuroscience and I am now a clinical research assistant at the Boston Children’s Hospital, with the PAIN Group working on brain imaging studies ranging from migraine to traumatic brain injury. Despite the trials and tribulations of life, I would not be who I am today without the strong community and abundance of opportunity here in Boston. I live in South Boston and I am fortunate to be #BOSTONMAde.”
